Memory 23, 24
Negative-Significant: Mama :( (Form: A wooden heart with a gear and crank. Will break after uses. 1/6)
More headcanon memory times! And since this is Magic Kaito and it's things with parents, I refuse to believe that Akako wasn't close to her mother. So her death probably messed her up, since Akako's is the heir and is going to rule which implies her mother is gone. And then I thought magic probably made it hard to kill witches, so it kind of went downhill from there. And I doubt we will get a reasoning for Akako's psychosis besides possibly corrupting power, so I went with the 'parents did it' theme of MK.
SO THE MEMORY ITSELF. It will actually be a year long memory because it will just be a whole thing. Akako is ten years old, and inexperienced in the ways of magic. So when she was crossing the road one day, and someone ran the red. Cue her waking up in the hospital a week later after nearly dying. Only to see her mother at her bedside. With red, puffy eyes. And tiny Akako realized what happened. NOTHING IS EVER SAID, but Akako knows. Her mother cried because she nearly lost her little girl.
Tiny Akako feels terrible, but her mama is still there, taking care of her! But Akako knows, the spirit has left her mother. She's not as she once was and the demons won't listen to her, only Akako. She gets them to help her mother when she needs it, but she has to be around giving orders.
Akako works hard to get better at magic, and get her body to move properly again. Her mother gives her a lot of praise for doing well and not crying in pain and shows her how to make some stuff to help her heal with no visible scars. Basically it's full of bittersweet fluff of broken mother still trying hard for her daughter whose trying hard to make her mother proud.
Then Akako's mother falls off a building. It was supposedly an accident, leaning on a busted railing at the top of a department store during some special show promoting some new kitchen wares. But there were whispers that she had actually caught the railing that was still firmly attached...and had let go herself.
Akako finds herself believing this possibility wholeheartedly...and knows why. ):

AND NOW SUDDENLY THINGS CLICKED AND IT WAS TERRIBLE. Kira has known about the price for magic for a long time, but lately, after the whole relief of not killing Kaito, Kira has been pondering things about herself now that she felt safe too. Since for a while she was just focused on PLEASE DON'T LET ME HAVE KILLED KIT. But she didn't, so what the hell was she supposed to do now? And it's felt like she's been missing something, which she has.
Which was why the hell was she so messed up in the first place. For a while she thought she might have been kidnapped and raised by assassins or something with her casual murder plans, but no. This memory makes it obvious, because demon manservant is there. She's been living how she's always lived. Different houses, but it's probably because she moved.
And why is Akako messed up? BECAUSE OF THIS. Mixed along with the whole thing about witches and force.
Akako wants love and affection, true and honest stuff. Which she never got a lot of because her magic made it unreal. She's surprised when affection comes and it's NOT because of her magic, such as affection from Aoko, or boys getting her presents even though they're out of the area affect, and then Kaito. Yet she holds no bitterness towards her magic, which is probably due to her affection for her mother, so mother was close.
Mother cared. Mother could care and it was honest and good. And Akako thought this was good.
Then she saw the dangers of it. Physical pain will not make witches cry, but emotional pain will. But for there to be emotional pain, there has to be a connection. Love, affection, caring, these are the things that could make a witch fall and seeing her mother's tears made it click for her. Her mother cried because she loved her daughter.
Then nearly a year later, her mother died. Unable to save herself with magic. And maybe, just maybe, she hadn't WANTED to. Which is the piece in all this Akako has been missing.
She's messed up because she got hit hard by the truth. If she cared, if she tried to connect with people, if she cared, she made herself vulnerable. She could cry. The SACRIFICE is to never cry. The price is her connections to others if she ever wants to guarantee the sacrifice will be properly paid.
There's been hints and implications of this truth for a while, but Kira hadn't wanted to see it. Because even while Akako rejected connections, buried herself in being powerful and using force to get what she wanted, she still desperately craved those affections. Kira never knew not too. And she didn't have her charm magic in the way either. So she knows every connection she has in Aather is genuine and she loves it.
Now she's learned that those connections may have a cost. It could cost her her magic. Something she feels empty without. Something her mother was broken without. And she's not sure how to deal with this new revelation. It will make her question if these things are good at all, and it's hard to say where she'll go from there.
Neutral-Trivial: Aoko and the suspicious invitation. (Form: A fiery butterfly in a glassbox.)

Includes Akako finding out about said invitation and her getting ready until Memory 3

WELL I GET TO KNOW WHAT I WHISPERED ALL THE TIME AGO.
It's...nothing really new? She saw it from Berry's POV before. She just know what she was whispering about. Which was she figured out something was suspicious and Kaito should play it safe.
And she would go with Aoko to protect her, but she kind of new that too. So overall, there's...not a whole lot here. \o/
